Real Madrid have been dealt a body blow in their pursuit for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea as the Spaniard has gone on to sign a new five-year contract at Old Trafford. The record European Champions were expected to go for him in the transfer market but now it seems like the goalkeeper will stay put in Manchester.
The transfer saga between the goalkeeper and the Spanish giants have gone on for last 2-3 years and now it seems like the time has finally arrived for Real Madrid to move on. Florentino Perez had indicated that to lure him they might have to shell out £100m for the goalkeeper but United have stood firm in all the transfer windows. De Gea has quite easily been there best player in the last few years and without him, they would have missed out on playing in European competitions.
He was perilously close to joining the Spanish capital once, however, the deal fell through on the last day. The 27-year-old was recently asked about his future but he didn’t give anything away. He said,” I don’t think Florentino Pérez has my number. I don’t know if I’ll be the goalkeeper at Real Madrid. What I do know is that I’m very happy in Manchester. What I want is to win titles, like every other player.”
It seems relatively clear now that the Spaniard has gone out of Real Madrid’s grasps and we look at three possible replacements they can go after.
Thibaut Courtois
The Chelsea custodian has been linked with a move away from London but it is yet not clear where his likely destination would be. Courtois will certainly be an able replacement for Los Blancos as he has a good amount of experience and can be considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Alisson Becker
The AS Roma goalkeeper has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid and he has certainly shot into limelight in the last few years. The Roma custodian has been brilliant for the Italian outfit and is destined for greatness in the future. Will it be with Real Madrid? Only time will tell.

Jan Oblak
Atletico Madrid has got hold of some quality goalkeepers in the last few years as Oblak came in 2014 to replace Thibaut Courtois. He has been a rock at the back for Los Rojiblancos and is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga currently. The Slovenian is still just 25 and can go on to improve further. However, this move will certainly not go down well with Atletico faithful as they would dread to see their player play for their derby rivals.
