Spanish news outlet, Don Balon claims that Real Madrid are gunning for the transfer of Bayern Munich midfielder, Thiago Alcantara along with their bitter rivals, Barcelona. Lionel Messi’s Blaugrana certainly hold the edge over the European champions due to their early association with him.
The 27-year-old is a product of the illustrious La Masia academy and already has 100 caps for the Barcelona senior team. He signed with the La Liga winners when he was just 14 and went on to progress through the youth ranks all the way to the senior team.
He appeared in 11 games for the Barcelona B side and made his league debut in May 2009 against RCD Mallorca. Facing a lot of competition in the senior team, Thiago followed Pep Guardiola to Bayern on a £21.6m (€25m) transfer fee ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.
The central midfielder took some time to adjust to the new dynamic but soon found his feet at the Allianz Arena. Now he is almost a guaranteed starter for the Bundesliga outfit with 153 total appearances under his belt.
He played in 32 games for the Bavarians last season and contributed with 7 goals and 4 assists. A muscle injury kept him out of action during the winter period but the Spaniard returned to help the side to their 6th consecutive league title and a Semi-Final run in the UEFA Champions League.
Thiago is one of the most skilful players in his position and has the ability to dazzle the crowd on his best days. He is very clever with possession and can operate from both deep and offensive positions, very much similar to the likes of Luka Modric at Real Madrid.
The latter, 33 put in another solid display last week to help the Los Blancos to their 13th European crown. With Zinedine Zidane stepping down from his managerial seat, Madrid will have to keep their core group of players to continue their dominant run in the continental stage.
Modric’s successor needs to be announced soon and who better than Thiago himself? None of the previous signings of Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente has really worked for the Galacticos.

Mateo Kovacic remains a talented young option on the benches but has still got to prove his worth. However, Real Madrid will face an uphill battle to pry a 25-time Spanish international away from the hands of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
