According to renowned journalist Pete O’Rourke, Rangers have reportedly completed a deal for Connor Goldson of Brighton And Hove Albion. The Ibrox side have spent long hours in the hunt for the defensive star and appear to have sealed his deal now. Latest statements on twitter seems to have confirmed a deal for Goldson, who will reportedly join Rangers on a four and a half year deal.
Brighton and Hove joined the big boys of the Premier League after gaining promotion last year. They had a successful campaign first time out and successfully avoided relegation. Chris Hughton’s men from the south coast took a while to get adjusted to the pace of the Premier League but once they did, they were comfortable in escaping relegation.
They had a problem throughout the campaign in scoring goals but were more than capable in defence. Hughton used defensive tactics and strong organisational skills to withhold the Brighton fort as defence became the key aspect of the Seagulls’ team. Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk were crucial to the survival of the team as the central defensive partnership of the aforementioned duo helped the Seagulls maintain their Premier League status. However, it resulted in their backup option Connor Goldson losing out on considerable game time.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who hails from England ended up playing only 3 of the 38 allotted matches in the Premier League. Although Brighton might want to keep a talented defender like Goldson on their bench, the constant sitting on the sidelines is far from ideal for the development of the defender. This gave rise to rumours that Rangers could come in for Goldson. The Gers have already seen multiple bids for the player rejected but appear to have cracked a deal now.
They will want to snap up the 25 year old Englishman who will definitely be able to play more at Ibrox. Rangers recently appointed Steven Gerrard as the new head coach of the team and the former Liverpool legend will look to make a series of new signings to reshape the team. Rangers played some decent football last season but ended the season on a rather poor note. They will now look to challenge Celtic this season for the league title and getting in players like Goldson will help the club improve the first team.

Rangers have been leaky defensively and that has been one of their problem areas in the last season. A player like Connor Goldson can be the ideal addition to their squad for the next season and the speculated completion of the move should make the Ibrox faithful happy.
