Rangers are looking for a new beginning in the upcoming season and they have handed the baton to Steven Gerrard to take the club forward and bring back its former glory days. That move has meant bad news for some players including former boss Pedro Caixinha’s signing Eduardo Herrera, who is set to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
The Mexican is likely to go back to his homeland and he will therefore, ply his trade in the Mexican League. The striker has been left back in Glasgow whereas all his other team-mates have gone to Spain for a pre-season training camp. That is a sure indication that the 29-year-old doesn’t have a future under Steven Gerrard and he is looking now for other suitors.
One cannot even say the move from Gerrard is wrong as Herrera has had a dismal stint at the Ibrox Stadium. He was signed with a lot of gung-ho as he was prolific in the Mexican leagues and was a top scorer in one of the seasons. However, he hasn’t been able to adjust to the demands of Scottish football and his woeful spell is soon going to come to an end.
The Mexican international made 24 appearances in all competitions last season and managed just 2 goals for his side. As a result, he wasn’t picked up for Mexico’s squad for 2018 World Cup. The attacking and goal scoring onus solely fell on the young shoulders of Alfredo Morelos and the young Colombian did go on to have a decent spell as he managed 18 goals and provided 8 assists.
The Gers have been relatively active in the transfer market and they have made some solid acquisitions. Their first priority was getting their defence sorted as they had conceded the most number of goals in the league for any of the top seven sides. They have brought in Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson who can play in the center back role. Apart from that, they have made some healthy acquisitions in other departments as well and now they need a striker who can share the burden of scoring goals with Morelos.

Teddy Bears are being linked with a loan move for AS Roma’s youngster Umar Sadiq and it is likely that signing of a new striker will be the final nail in the coffin for Herrera’s stint at the Ibrox. Herrera’s move to Mexico is likely to go through and the Gers will be happy to get him off the payroll and get some transfer money for him.
