Rangers FC have officially confirmed a loan spell for Joe Dodoo away to League One outfit, Blackpool for the upcoming 2018/19 season. The 22-year-old is coming off another stint with Charlton Athletic where he appeared in only 8 games across all competitions to register 2 goals. Prior to that, Dodoo was less than a sporadic option for the Gers, having played just 2 senior games in the first half of the 2017/18 campaign.
Steven Gerrard is ready to dispose of any unnecessary personnel to make way for more improved and hungrier talents. Dodoo has not found his scoring run yet at the Ibrox but does have the potential to someday make it in the big leagues.
He just needs to find a suitable environment to prove himself and Blackpool can offer that in their pursuit of Championship promotion. Gary Bowyer has already snapped up players from all corners of the United Kingdom and is on the lookout for more.
Dodoo is a versatile attacking talent who was highly rated in the Leicester City youth ranks. The former England U18 international is born of Ghanaian descent and is a product of the Foxes’ academy. He scored 14 times in all around 53 games for the club’s U23 side and even made 4 senior team appearances.
Unfortunately, with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Demarai Gray and Riyad Mahrez already in the side, Dodoo could not cut it under Claudio Ranieri and was sold off to Rangers in the summer of 2016, after a short loan move away to Bury FC.
Dodoo could not make an immediate impact for the Light Blues but still managed a prominent role under Pedro Caixinha on the left wing. His pace and dribbling skills came handy in the final third as he slotted in 5 goals and furthered 3 assists in 25 appearances in his debut season.
However, the striker’s chances of senior team involvement were always doomed when Steven Gerrard replaced Graeme Murty to the Ibrox managerial seat.
The former Liverpool captain brought in reinforcements through the likes of Jamie Murphy, Scott Arfield, Alan McGregor and Ovie Ejaria. He is also looking into AS Roma’s Umar Sadiq as a backup striking option to Alfredo Morelos.

Gerrard has been tasked with returning the Light Blues to title-winning ways and that would require the acquisition of top-pedigree talents. Dodoo will have to find a way to impress the new boss while away to Bloomfield Road or he faces the danger of getting dropped altogether.
