Rangers FC fans should be overjoyed to hear the latest on the Umar Sadiq transfer saga. The player’s close friend, Mohammed Mowiz Suleiman said, “He has agreed to join Rangers because at Roma the coach couldn’t guarantee him a regular run of games if he stays. Something he knows he can get in Scotland with Rangers. I think the catch has to be the chance of working with Steven Gerrard. The move per the last time I spoke with Sadiq should be done by next week.”
According to other reports, the Gers have already agreed on a price with AS Roma with the player who is just due to getting his work permit at Scotland. Suleiman also said, “He recently got married to his Italian girlfriend, so the issue of work permit won’t be an issue.”
The 21-year-old spent the past season on loan with NAC Breda who did not activate their buyback clause. Sadiq was considered only as a sporadic option at Roma but was a cemented starter for the Dutch outfit. The striker really came into his own last season to score 5 times in 12 Eredivisie appearances.
His only senior team involvement with Roma during his 18-month stay at the Stadio Olimpico has been for 6 games. With the likes of Edin Dzeko, Patrik Schick and Gregoire Defrel in the squad, it was imminent that Sadiq would either be sold off or be loaned out to a different side.
Rangers are offering a brilliant proposition to the forward who has 6 caps and 4 goals for the Nigeria U23 side. He helped his country to the Bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics, held in Rio.
Gerard has already told Eduardo Herrera to find himself a new club, as the Mexican forward posted a defiant message on his Instagram profile. The Lights Blues’ head coach has been on the lookout for a strike partner next to Alfredo Morelos ever since the departure of Jason Cummings to Nottingham Forest after the completion of his loan spell. Kenny Miller, 38 has also been released from the club’s books.
Sadiq could be a brilliant acquisition in the coming years. With 23 goals scored in 32 senior games for Spezia Primavera, the 21-year-old’s scoring potential is quite evident. He previously also netted the ball 12 times in 10 games for the AS Roma reserves and 5 times in 9 games for the U19 side.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, he will give Gerrard more options to work with, especially going into the aerial duels.
