As per latest reports, Rangers are looking to reunite with their former player Steven Davis who currently plies his trade for Southampton in the Premier League. The midfielder had spent close to 6 seasons with the Gers before he went on to join the Saints. Since then, the central midfielder has become a crucial player for them and is currently the club captain.
The Teddy Bears have been relatively active in the transfer market and they have made some useful acquisitions as of now. Their first priority was to sort their defensive woes and they did go on to sign two centre-backs in Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson. Apart from that, they have also secured the signing of Ovie Ejaria(On Loan), Jamie Murphy, Scott Arfield, Jon Flanagan and Allan McGregor.
It is clear that their new manager Steven Gerrard means business in the transfer market as they look to halt Celtic‘s domination in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers were interested in Hibernian FC midfielder John McGinn but it now looks like they are unlikely to get him. It is probably a right move on Gerrard’s part to look at other alternatives and Davis can certainly be a good man to start in the middle of the park.
The 33-year-old is a boyhood Rangers fan and has represented them 200 times in his first stint with them. He scored 21 goals and provided 60 assists before Southampton came calling in 2012 and he decided to make the switch to the Premier League. The veteran faced some brickbats from some section of the fans when he decided to part ways with them but an offer to the English top division was too tough to turn down for the Northern Irish international
Davis has represented his country at almost all youth levels and has been a stalwart for them over the years. The veteran is a hard-working midfielder and he literally leaves nothing inside his tank when he is on the pitch. His tenacity and perseverance make a huge difference and he is often calm and composed on the ball. He has an eye for a defence-splitting pass and is a perfect man to have in the middle of the park.
