Rangers can lose out on their striking sensation Alfredo Morelos after the Columbian spent just one season at the Ibrox stadium. He was signed in the 2017 summer transfer window and was a crucial player for Graeme Murty in the just-concluded campaign. However, Rangers didn’t manage to challenge Celtic this season as well as they finished 12 points below them. That prompted the Gers board to sack Murty and they appointed the relatively inexperienced Steven Gerrard.
One of Gerrard’s first duties at the club could be to sort out the young Columbian’s future as he recently retweeted a post linking him to Turkish outfit Besiktas. Turkish giants have shown interest in him after he managed 18 goals and 8 assists in the previous campaign and they believe they can bag him for as less as €2m.
The Turkish outfit are still looking to replace Cenk Tosun who moved to Everton in the January transfer window. Gerrard will certainly be keen on holding the 21-year-old striker as Kenny Miller will be out of contract soon and loanee Jason Cummings is set to be back at his parent club Nottingham Forest.
Morelos started his life at the Ibrox Stadium well but as the season progressed his form faded. He had a run of 10 games where he just scored one goal and was guilty of missing some absolute sitters. However, he is currently the best option they have upfront and the Gers will surely not want to lose him just after a year. Nevertheless, they need to be prepared for that scenario and we look at three possible replacements they can go for if Morelos leaves the club in the summer.
Dominic Solanke
England’s star at the u-21 level has found it tough to get going with Liverpool as he has struggled for game time. One cannot blame Jurgen Klopp as he currently has one of the best-attacking trio upfront and Solanke will probably have to bide his time on the bench next season as well. Gerrard can certainly bring him at the Ibrox at least on loan and he can be the answer to Rangers’ attacking woes.
Jermaine Defoe
The veteran English striker’s name has been doing the rounds and Steven Gerrard will have to play a pivotal role in bringing in the Bournemouth striker. His capabilities are certainly under no doubt but will he be a long time option for Gerrard? Certainly no but he can be a good filler in the striker’s role for a year or two.

Rhian Brewster
Another one of the Liverpool options who has been linked for a move at Rangers. Gerrard has managed him previously at the under 19 level and the striker can certainly be a good move for the Gers. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will sell him on a permanent basis.
