Scottish giants Rangers are looking to revive themselves and for that, they are bringing in talents from the transfer market. They have already secured the signings of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy and it seems that Steven Gerrard is keen on bringing in another talent at the Ibrox stadium. They are currently being linked with the Manchester City winger Brandon Barker who spent the previous season on loan at Hibernian FC and the youngster impressed in his debut season at the Easter road.
He was an important member of Neil Lennon’s side as the Hibs went on to finish fourth and were just three points behind Rangers in the table at the end of the season. Barker made 30 appearances in all competitions and managed 2 goals and 5 assists. Rangers were said to be interested in him earlier but their former manager Pedro Caixinha was not too keen on having the 21-year-old English winger.
According to reports, Barker’s name features on the list of potential signings which the Gers boss has made and they are expected to go for the Manchester-born winger in the transfer market. However, they will be expected to get stiff competition from the Hibs and various other Championship sides as they are also vying for the youngster’s signature.
It remains to be seen whether Gerrard and company will be able to lure the youngster as he had previously indicated that he loved his stint at Easter Road. Regarding his loan spell with Hibs, he had said,” It’s been unbelievable. I had a really difficult season last year and I wasn’t really happy. This season, I’ve been happy again. My injury layoff was a set-back but I’ve loved it up here, it’s been incredible.”
Barker currently has two years left on his contract with Manchester City but it is expected that they will not stand in the way if the youngster wants to leave the club. City currently has a plethora of attacking options and getting into that City XI will be a herculean task for the youngster.
