Rangers manager Steven Gerrard spent time in the classroom completing his UEFA Pro Licence course at the Toulon Tournament in the south of France. Later on, he watched the England u-21 team play and would have seen Leeds United talent Tom Pearce, from close quarters.
In an interview, he went on to say that he is also scouting for players who can help him at the Ibrox stadium. He said,”There’s a level of footballer which of course would interest me. ‘I’m on the Pro-Licence course which is the last course in terms of being qualified. While I’m here I want to kill two birds with one stone. I want to see what talent is there if there’s anyone who interests me. I’ve got tasks to do within the course but I’ve also got a wandering eye on what’s going on with certain individual players.”
Gerrard has indicated that he was scouring for a few talents while watching the games and Tom Pearce would have certainly caught his eye. However, Pearce is expected to sign a new deal at Leeds United soon, so it is highly unlikely that Rangers manager will be looking to snap him up.
Nevertheless, one cannot count the move out as Gerrard is looking to revive the Scottish giants after they have been dominated by their rivals Celtic in the last few seasons. Pearce made his debut in the latter half of the season as Leeds United were struggling with options in the left back department.
The youngster impressed in a short while and made 5 appearances in all competitions. In the upcoming season, he is expected to play a much bigger role at Elland Road. However, his contract will run out by the end of this month but the Peacocks are confident that the 20-year-old will soon commit his long-term future at the club.
Gers currently have the likes of Lee Wallace and Declan John who can play in the left-back role as well. Wallace is the club captain and he missed most part of the season as he had to go through a groin operation. He managed to make just 5 appearances in the league and Declan John had to fill in for him for pretty much throughout the season.

It is highly unlikely that Gerrard will go for another left back as he has other positions to look after which requires immediate strengthening. A fit Wallace will be a sure shot starter at Ibrox and Declan John is an able backup option so a move for Pearce will certainly be uncharacteristic on the Teddy Bears’ part.
