Rangers are looking to bring huge improvements to their squad and they have been linked with quite a few players in the past few months. It has not been all smoke as Steven Gerrard has been active in the transfer market as they have secured seven signings as of now. Three of them are on a free transfer and one is a loan move of Ovie Ejaria. Now the new gaffer has gone on to confirm another speculation. Teddy Bears have been linked with AS Roma’s striker Umar Sadiq who spent the second half of the last season on loan with NAC Breda.
Gerrard said,” We’re a fan of Umar Sadiq but there is nothing to report on that yet in terms of progress but we do like the player. We’ll have to see how that one materialises. He’d bring us a forward option – height, power, presence. He’s a player that works too hard believe it or not.”
He further praised the Nigerian striker and said,”He does tons and tons of running. He’s very enthusiastic. He’s the type of player who gives you just as much out of possession as he does in possession which is very important. We’ve got an interest but at the moment he’s still a Roma player. It’s ongoing. We have to be respectful and see how it progresses but he’s someone we like.”
Those are certainly some big praise coming from the Liverpool legend and it seems like the Gers will try their level best to land the 21-year-old striker. The forward had joined Roma in 2016 after he impressed them earlier on a loan spell and it seems like they want to keep hold of him, so it is likely that if a move happens, Sadiq will move on loan instead of a permanent basis.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with Dutch outfit NAC Breda where he managed 5 goals and three assists in 12 games. In his two year stay with the Italian outfit, he has managed just 6 senior team appearances and has mustered up two goals.

The Gers are looking for good options up front as they have only one viable out and out striker in Alfredo Morelos. Sadiq has impressed at the youth level wherever he has gone and the 6ft 4inches striker will certainly be a handful in the Scottish Premiership. He can be a perfect target man up front and he is technically sound, which make him a dangerous proposition around the penalty box. The youngster has caused an interest in a lot of European giants and if Gers manage to secure him on a season-long loan deal, they will certainly come close to challenging their rivals Celtic in the upcoming season.
