After a season that never seemed to end for the Blues of Merseyside, Everton are now in an exciting phase this summer, as they have managed to land Marco Silva, a gaffer they were after for almost a year. They are now ready to spend big on players that fit into the new manager’s system and are linked with a wide variety of stars for a move this summer.
One such player Everton continue to be linked with is William Carvalho.
A mainstay in the Portuguese national side for the World Cup in Russia this year, the Angola-born midfielder started his senior career with Sporting CP but made a name for himself with Club Brugge in Belgium, where he spent a couple of seasons on loan.
He was brought back to Sporting in 2013 and has ever since been a regular in the first team, helping the club to a couple of trophies. He has been linked with an exit even last summer but the Liga NOS giants managed to keep him for another season but the unrest at the club in Portugal has now seen him turn into a free agent.
The 26-year old joined a list of first-team stars that terminated their contract with Leões, after an unfortunate attack on the training camp by their fans. Rui Patricio, their no.1, has already left the club to join Wolves in the Premier League and it is understood that Everton are hot on the heels of Sporting, to try and sign Carvalho.
A strong and technically gifted midfielder, Carvalho is a modern-era no.6, who loves to turn defence into attack with every opportunity. Confident in possession and happy to hold on to the ball, the 26-year old is an excellent dribbler, with a keen eye for a pass.

He loves to drop in between the defenders to dictate play when his side are on top and is a busy player in the middle of the park, constantly looking to break up possession and win the ball back. Everton have Idrissa Gueye, who did a similar job last season along with Morgan Schneiderlin but Carvalho offers a lot more at both ends of the field and is a player that will definitely improve the squad at Everton.
He will probably walk into the first team and will add a different dimension to the options at Silva’s disposal at the moment. Everton will still have to pay a tribunal fee to sign Carvalho on a terminated contract, but he is well worth the hassles this deal might cause in the transfer window.
