Newcastle United have been one of the success stories of the last season after they managed to end it in the top half of the table, despite all the stumbling blocks that came their way. They started their term pretty far from how their fans would have expected but the Magpies, under the careful guidance of their manager Rafael Benitez, picked up the pace at the right time and helped themselves to the endpoint comfortably.
However, it is a new season that reckons the Toon and they have to be prepared for the challenges. The Magpies did not have the best of players at their disposal in the last season and it was really the shrewd tactics of their Spanish manager that got them out of the hole.
Their owner, Mike Ashley, has not been able to comply to the demands of Benitez to help him out with a warchest of a significant amount for restructuring his side and make it one to compete with the biggies of the Premier League. However, he might be given some backup to get the players he wants this summer and one of them might be the Liverpool outcast, Daniel Sturridge.
Once touted as one of the best strikers in England, the fall from grace for the 28-year-old has been both painful and spectacular. A season plagued by injuries saw the player miss most of the last term, as he played just 15 matches in the Premier League, most of which came for his on-loan club West Bromwich Albion, which he joined in January.
Reportedly, the player was approached by Newcastle United for a possible loan deal in January as well but Liverpool had rejected their offer to bring in the player to St. James’ Park. However, the reports are stating that the player has been offered to the Magpies this time around for only £15million.
In case the deal goes through, Newcastle will surely be the one to be benefitted from it provided Sturridge’s injury scare doesn’t come back to haunt them. Despite his shortcomings, the Englishman can be a genuine threat in front of the goal and can be a good backup option to Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez, the misfiring forwards of Newcastle United from the last season.

With his top-class pedigree, Sturridge can walk into the Newcastle starting lineup any day but given his history with injuries, he might be used as a sporadic option by the Spaniard, if they accept the offer to rope him in during the summer transfer window.
