Newcastle United are in need of creative midfielders as they struggled in front of goal to score freely. Their season was built on strong defensive performances as they went on to secure a top-half finish in the Premier League. To continue their climb in English football, they will be in need of some attacking reinforcements. One good option is Jack Grealish but his asking price could be too much for the Toon.
It is clear that Aston Villa are in financial trouble and they might have to sell some of their key assets to balance their books. Grealish played a crucial role in Vill’s push towards Premier League promotion. The Aston Villa academy graduate made 34 appearances in all competitions and managed 3 goals and provided 8 assists. Many are touting him to be a future England international but he still needs to improve his game further if he wants to take his career to such height.
Rafael Benitez’s side certainly punched above their weight as they finished 10th in the table. Many were expecting them to be in a relegation scrap but they were in good form since the turn of the year. They did find some success in front of goal as Benitez started using Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle together upfront. Nevertheless, they will still need someone who can create more from midfield.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in the running to sign Grealish and they are considered as favourites to get their man. The troubled Villans will try to extract as much money as possible but Daniel Levy holds all the cards as he knows that Villa are desperate for funds and they can play the waiting game.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have certainly cleared it out that they are not in the market to sign Grealish. We have seen Benitez having trouble with the owner regarding transfer budget and one doesn’t see the Toon spending £30m odd for just one player. Grealish is still unproven at the top level and this is certainly not a bad move from the Magpies.

However, today’s market is such that one needs to spend a lot to get their targets and Newcastle will probably have to look for a much cheaper option to bring in an out an out no.10 who will usher them creatively upfront and also pop in with some crucial goals every now and then. They cannot let another season pass without spending much and that can even lead to Rafael Benitez leaving the club if he doesn’t get his requisite transfer kitty.
