Newcastle United are interested in securing the services of Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer. According to recent reports, the Magpies could be lining up an offer to bring the English talent to Tyneside ahead of the new campaign.
The Blues’ playmaker had a terrific campaign on loan at Crystal Palace last season where he put in a number of match-winning performances which have not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources are now claiming that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is eager to strengthen his midfield options during this summer transfer period and reckons Loftus-Cheek fits the bill perfectly.
The English international is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the stewardship of Benitez at St. James’ Park. The 22-year-old had made 25 appearances for the Eagles last season, scoring two goals while grabbing five assists in all competitions. He is also part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has earned five international caps for his country so far.
At 22, the Chelsea youngster still has his peak years ahead of him, which the Magpies could look to utilise in the coming years. Loftus-Cheek has a lot of potential, and could turn out to be a future star in the English top-flight which is why Benitez should do everything in his power to lure him to Tyneside this summer.
Newcastle had a mediocre campaign last term and could only grind out a 10th placed finish in the league table. However, they managed to avoid relegation and will now be expected to push on and compete for a European place in the upcoming season.
The potential acquisition of Loftus-Cheek will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s midfield options. The Magpies has a whole array of midfield talents such as Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame, Mikel Merino, Isaac Hayden and Jacob Murphy vying for a starting berth in Benitez’s first XI. The addition of Loftus-Cheek will definitely improve their team and add more competition for places within the squad.

The Tyneside outfit lacked creativity from the midfield last season and recruiting Loftus-Cheek would go a long way in helping Benitez address that issue. The English talent has shown, during his spell at Selhurst Park, that he can be a match-winner on his day, which is why he will be a perfect fit for the Magpies. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Loftus-Cheek and whether he ends up plying his trade at Tyneside next season.
