Newcastle United, one of the success stories from the last season, are looking to make the next season a better one. However, they might need to bring in some new players into their squad to beef it up for the next season, especially in the attacking department, as they lacked the goal threat in the last season, owing to the incompetence of the Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.
Benitez’s demands for allowing him to have a war chest of a significant amount have not been fulfilled by the owner of the Tyneside club, Mike Ashley, which has enraged the Spaniard to some extent. However, there might be a change to this scenario as the former Liverpool manager might get some assistance from the management to bring in few of the players on his wishlist, one of them being the Belgian winger Anthony Limbombe.
The 23-year-old attacker, who currently plies his trade with Club Brugge, has been a target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer including Newcastle. The Tyneside outfit is in dire need of reinforcements up front as they need to make a strong statement in the next season as well.
Limbombe played 39 matches in the last term and has been one of the brightest youngsters of Belgian football. His agility and pace on the ball and off it has attracted the attention of a number of experts in Europe, making him one of the most sought-after names in the current scenario.
Newcastle are well aware of the fact that they have a fight on hand if they are looking to land the prodigal Belgian this summer as their interest is set to be contested by Premier League rivals like Huddersfield Town and Southampton. Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is also looking to push for a bid to rope in the player, which makes the battle even more intense.
The Magpies have been one of the sides who are more dependent on their defence and their success in the last season to end in the top half of the table was due to this attribute of their side. However, Benitez knows the fact that if he does not get ample resources to beef up the other departments of his team, especially the attack, it is going to be quite tough for them to compete with the Premier League biggies in the pursuit of glory.
