Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has reportedly told the club’s ownership to stop pursuing a transfer for Danny Rose. The Tottenham Hotspur fullback was high on the transfer short list of the Portuguese boss and was even thrown around the rumour mills with a £50m price tag. Now that the Red Devils has signed Diogo Dalot from FC Porto, Mourinho wants to focus all of his financial resources towards a centre-back.
With Ashley Young selected in the 23-man England squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, United seem well covered in the left-back position with Luke Shaw in the club. Mourinho managed to pull off a brilliant bit of tactical improvisation by fielding Young as a makeshift fullback last season.
The Englishman did as required and even acted as a quality threat on the offensive end with that solid right foot of his. Young was quick to learn the tricks of the position and served as a cemented starter for almost the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign.
Dalot is expected to be an understudy for Antonio Valencia on the right but is also capable of featuring from the left. Maybe Mourinho has fallen in love with the right-foot dominant fullbacks who are able to cut inside when required to deliver the final balls into the box or is simply unconcerned over the prospects of a traditional left-back.
Nevertheless, this could leave Rose in a difficult spot after the completion of the international tournament in Russia. While he might have managed to carve out a place under Gareth Southgate, the Englishman still remains unsettled with his current club.
Rose recently came out to let everyone know of his recent battle with depression and how it has affected his game this past season. The 27-year-old fell behind Ben Davies in the pecking order after suffering an injury earlier in the previous campaign.
Davies managed to steal the starting spot with his impressive and consistent performances for Spurs. No one can really fault Mauricio Pochettino for choosing the Welshman over Rose, even though the manager tried his level best to rotate the duo around as much as possible.
Rose is accustomed to life as a cemented starter and was looking forward to the prospects of playing for a title-challenging side and a higher weekly paycheck, much like his former teammate, Kyle Walker.

Now he might have to readjust to life at White Hart Lane or force a move out of the side to another club. United should definitely reignite their interest in the fullback as soon as the other additions are completed.
