Manchester United are holding firm on their asking price for their French striker Anthony Martial amidst speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils have turned down Spurs’ initial approach and would only sell their prized asset if the North Londoners are willing to meet their asking price.
The French international joined United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015 for a fee which could rise up to £56m. Hence, Jose Mourinho’s side are now demanding a fee in excess of that figure if they are to part ways with their prized asset. Martial’s agent has recently confirmed that the forward wants to quit Old Trafford after failing to agree on new terms with the club.
In a recent interview, the player’s agent, Philippe Lamboley was quoted to have said, “After thinking about all the possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United. When Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world, does not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is that it does not really want to make him an important player.”
“It is a well-considered decision. He is under contract, United will have the last word and we will respect the decision of the club, it will go to the end of its commitment.
“We do not have the same vision on Anthony’s future. Without the unconditional support of the fans, Anthony would have already asked to leave United.
“I will not comment on the consequences of the January transfer window. Everyone will have his opinion, I think he must resume the course of his career. The time has come.”
Martial was subject to limited first-team opportunities during the course of last season which has left him frustrated and eager to switch clubs in search of greener pastures. The 22-year-old had made 45 appearances for the Red Devils last term, scoring 11 goals while grabbing 9 assists in all competitions.
The Frenchman is exactly the kind of talent who would add a lot of quality to the Tottenham attack as they look to compete on all fronts next season. Martial has incredible potential which he could fulfil under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.
The addition of Martial will undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s attacking options ahead of the new season. Spurs already have the likes of Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura competing for a starting berth in the Tottenham first-team. The potential acquisition of Martial will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Pochettino’s squad.

It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Martial and whether he ends up making a move to North London before the start of the new season.
