Jose Mourinho failed to lift a trophy last season at Old Trafford. That, coupled with his system at the club, has frustrated a lot of fans recently. The Portuguese mastermind will be under pressure to get Manchester United back to its previous best next season, and for that, he will have to add some quality to his first team this summer.
But that is only a part of his problem. His man management constantly agonizes a number of star players at his club and at Old Trafford, it is Paul Pogba.
The French international, who moved back to Old Trafford in 2016 on a then world record fee, has failed to live up to his expectations, in his second stint in the country. He has shown glimpses of his quality at times, like in the Manchester derby after the turn of the year, but constantly drops under-par performances, which has seen him and his side struggle on a consistent basis.
It is also suggested that he and Mourinho are not in great personal terms and the though the midfielder has denied all such rumours, it has not stopped him from being linked with an exit. French giants PSG and Spanish giants Real Madrid have been previously linked with a move for Pogba but the latest side joining the list is Barcelona.
Reports in Spain suggest that Ernesto Valverde is desperate to find an able replacement for Anders Iniesta, who is heading to Asia after the World Cup. He has the likes of Christian Eriksen and Miralem Pjanic on his wish list, but Pogba reportedly leads that line. Barcelona could be open to spending big yet again, but can United afford to lose him?
The 25-year old is one of the most technically astute midfielders in Europe at the moment. He is capable of producing magical moments, that set the field alight but what made him a star, was his consistency for Juventus. However, he has failed to find the same under Mourinho, and a part of the problem has been the Portuguese’s system at the club.

Pogba is not given as much freedom and it is evident that he is struggling to express himself. But Mourinho does believe in his abilities and his ready to give him chances galore. So Pogba does not need to move to get game time, and for a professional like him, he will want to stay in England and prove himself. Manchester United are in no real need to sell and even if he fetched a profit, they are sure to hold on to the French international, as he is a part of the core at the club that Mourinho is building for the future.
