It is now often that Manchester United fail to land their top transfer targets. The Red Devils were desperate for Alex Sandro and Antoine Griezmann, both of who are expected to stay put this summer. So Jose Mourinho will be a frustrated man and will now look elsewhere to add some quality to his side.
But to add to his troubles, another of his top transfer target seems to be slipping away. According to reports from Spain, Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet is close to joining Barcelona. The French youngster was wanted by Manchester United as a partner for Eric Bailly and this news will now push United back in the transfer market for another centre back. Here are three such options Mourinho should now target before the start of the next season:
Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur):
The Belgian international, who has rejected a couple of new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, is now up for sale this summer. Manchester United have been long-term suitors for Alderweireld but Spurs are holding out for a fee of £75m, which is over the top for a player that has just over a year left on his current deal. But he stands as one of the best defenders in Europe at the moment and can walk into the first team at United, making him well worth the price tag.
Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle United):
The Newcastle United man was one of the major reasons for the club managing to break into the top half of the table last season. He was also crucial in bringing the Magpies back into the top flight last season and is easily one of the best players in his role at the moment in England. He is still 24 but is already the skipper of the Newcastle side and his leadership abilities along with previous experience in the league make him an attractive option for the Red Devils.

Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich):
The German international, currently busy with the World Cup in Russia, is now put up for sale by the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Reports suggest that Bayern are open to offers close to £50m for his services this summer. At that price, Boateng is an absolute steal for United. He is tried and tested at the highest stage, is one of the most decorated and experienced defenders in Europe and will solve the problem at United for years to come.
