Sheffield United have officially signed Manchester United’s Dean Henderson on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old becomes Chris Wilder’s first signing of the 2018 summer window as the Blades look to make a run for promotion in the upcoming season.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, Henderson said, “I can’t wait to go there to build on the last season I had at Shrewsbury. It’s in the division above and showing that progression by going on to the next bigger stage, in front of 30,000 passionate fans at Bramall Lane. I can’t wait to go there and perform and connect with them. I’m sure it will be a successful season.”
“Sheffield United are a massive club and it’s a massive city for football. They’ve got that rivalry with Sheffield Wednesday and I’m looking forward to those games coming up as well. I can’t wait to get there and push up the division.”
This could prove to be a lucrative move for all parties since Henderson clearly will not be favoured at Old Trafford. With David De Gea almost uncontested in the number one spot and Sergio Romero employed as the backup, the odds of goalkeeping prodigies one day shining for the Red Devils are woefully low.
Henderson is still only 21 and has enjoyed a rewarding spell with Shrewsbury Town the last term. He racked up 19 clean sheets in 44 appearances across all competitions. The Englishman has also been capped 13 times by his country’s U16, U17, U20 and U21 sides.
Henderson previously had also spent time away from Manchester with Grimsby Town and Stockport County. None of the other outfits could offer him such a prominent role as the Shrews did in the League One.
Now the Championship is a further step into the youngster’s playing career. United was the starting choice under Wilder the last term but the 28-year-old’s contract has not been renewed yet. Sheffield does have the option to activate a further 12-month extension.
Now, with Henderson making his way over to the Bramall Lane the chances of that happening are low. The Manchester United academy product has shown a lot of promise over the past season to potentially knock out able veterans to the first team spot.

He has also signed a contract with the Red Devils till the summer of 2020 and was chased by a number of Championship outfits.
