The lack of a trophy last season will certainly haunt Jose Mourinho this summer. The Portuguese gaffer will be desperate to add star players to his first team for the next season and continues to be linked with some of the finest stars in Europe for a move this summer. However, he will also have to keep an eye on players who are unhappy at the club, at the moment.
One such player, who was extensively linked with an exit is Anthony Martial.
The French international joined Manchester United back in 2015, standing as the most expensive teenager at that time in world football, Martial is one of the most gifted footballers at the moment in Europe. He has 18 appearances for the national side already but missed out on a place in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad for Russia.
A part of the reason for that is the fact that he managed just 18 Premier League starts last season. Martial has failed to earn the trust of Mourinho, who has time and again snubbed him for crucial games. He managed 12 goals and seven assists last season but will be frustrated with the way he has been treated at the club.
And fuelling the exit rumours, his representative Philippe Lamboley revealed that United have failed to reach an agreement with Martial and that the youngster is now looking for potential suitors this summer.
However, a story from The Daily Mail now claims that Manchester United are not ready to listen to offers for potentially one of the best players in the game. Jose Mourinho wants Martial to stay but will not stop him if the player approaches him directly.
The report also claims that Martial has not yet decided on his future and may yet be tempted to move to Tottenham Hotspur, who have been desperate for his signature. But at just 22, he will want to play every game, every week and will want assurance of the same to stay back at Old Trafford. So can United keep him?

The Red Devils are yet to add to their attack this summer and Mourinho looks likely to add a winger than a striker to his side. This will mean that Martial will no longer be an option on the wing. But he can certainly play as a striker and could be the backup to Romelu Lukaku, something that might interest him.
Playing for a club like United is not an opportunity you would want to leave, so Martial should try and fight for his place for another season, after which he will be less expensive and will have more suitors in the transfer market.
