Liverpool are looking to make a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are planning to secure the signature of the Dutch starlet during this summer transfer window. It is believed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to strengthen his attacking options at Anfield in the summer and Bergwijn fits the bill perfectly.
The Dutch youngster has put in a number of outstanding performances for PSV during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources are now claiming that the Merseyside giants are hoping to land him this summer as they look to compete on all fronts next season. However, the Reds are not the only ones looking to recruit him with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping tabs on his progress at the Philips Stadion.
Bergwijn is a former Ajax academy product who joined Eindhoven in the summer of 2011. The Eredivisie wide man had featured in 32 league matches for PSV last season, scoring 8 goals while grabbing 11 assists. The PSV starlet has also played for the Netherlands national team at every youth rank from the Under-17 level onwards.
It could prove to be a major coup for the five-time European champions as Bergwijn has massive potential which he could fulfil under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the English top-flight.
The Anfield-based outfit are in need of a few quality acquisitions in this summer transfer market if they are to compete on all fronts next season. The addition of Bergwijn will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at Merseyside and help them challenge for a major silverware once again in the upcoming campaign.
Liverpool have a whole host of skilful wingers such as Mohamed Salah, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain competing for a place in Klopp’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Bergwijn will definitely add more competition for places within the Liverpool squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.
