Liverpool seem to be determined to improve on their progress from the previous season as Jurgen Klopp is ready to leave no stone unturned to try and get the glory days back to the Red of Merseyside. The German tactician has certain roles in the first team that he wants to add quality to, but the creative midfield area, that was left vacant by the sale of Philippe Coutinho in January is one that is getting on his nerves.
The Reds have added Naby Keita and Fabinho to their squad from the previous season but are looking for players who can play in the third midfield role, adding more to an already impressive attack. They were desperately after Nabil Fekir but the French international move to the club seems to have met a dead end.
They are now scouting for potential replacements, with the likes of Jack Grealish linked with a move to Anfield this summer. But the latest name doing the rounds is Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Born and brought up in London, the 22-year old graduated from the Chelsea academy and broke into the senior side in 2014. As a teenager, he showed great promise but the quality in the first team saw him struggle to find regular playing time. He did not impress Antonio Conte enough, who sent him out on loan to Crystal Palace last season.
He picked up two goals and three assists in 21 league starts and did enough to impress Gareth Southgate, who named him in his squad for the World Cup in Russia. He is a street-smart footballer, with decent technique and understanding of the game. He is ready to do the dirty work, while his confidence and skill with the ball at his feet, allow him to create chances on a regular basis.
He can play on either wing or as a part of the midfield three, like in Klopp’s system and will be a decent acquisition for the Reds. He is still 22 and raw and if Klopp has seen enough in him, he is certain to be a star at Liverpool.

It is understood that Everton are favourites to land Loftus-Cheek if he decides to quit Chelsea this summer. Liverpool are closely behind while Crystal Palace are also in running to take him on loan once again. But at the moment, Loftus-Cheek will want Chelsea’s managerial situation sorted, so he can decide on his future. He is no upgrade on the likes of Fekir but will definitely have an impact on the first team at Liverpool. So if Klopp really fails to land Fekir or another similar name, Loftus-Cheek is not a bad option for the side.
