Liverpool are currently the favourites in the race to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are looking to secure the services of the Slovenia international during this summer transfer period.
It is believed that the La Liga goalie could make a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano after four years at the Spanish club. Oblak has a €100m release clause in his current contract with Atletico Madrid but has refused to pen a new deal so far. Some sources have also claimed that Madrid are already on the lookout for a replacement for the Slovenian talent and have their eyes set on Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa.
The Merseyside club has been subject to a lot of goalkeeping errors from their keepers Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet over the past few years which is why Jurgen Klopp should do everything in his power to seal a move for Oblak. The 25-year-old has been in sensational form and has put in a number of match-winning performances under Diego Simeone during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed. However, Liverpool could face stiff competition from Arsenal in pursuit of the Slovenia international’s signature in this post-season.
Klopp should sign a top-class shot-stopper in this ongoing transfer window so that his team are well-equipped to mount a realistic title challenge in the English top tier next term. The addition of Oblak will definitely bolster the German manager’s goalkeeping options at Anfield.
The Reds have the likes of Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet, Adam Bogdan and Danny Ward in their ranks who are all competing for a place in Klopp’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Oblak will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Liverpool squad.
The 25-year-old had made 49 appearances under Diego Simeone last season, conceding 28 goals while keeping 29 clean sheets across all competitions. He has also earned 17 international caps for the Slovenia national team so far in his career. The Atletico keeper has a wealth of experience playing at the highest level which is why he shouldn’t have any problem performing at his peak in the Premier League.

With the Slovenian’s current contract set to run out in the summer of 2021, the Madrid outfit would be under no pressure to part ways with their prized asset. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Oblak and whether he ends up making a switch to Anfield this summer.
