A goalkeeper from Anfield could be set to leave Liverpool this summer. No, it is not Lorius Karius, who might still get another chance next season to prove his worth to the Merseysiders. Instead, it is their third choice custodian Danny Ward.
The young goalkeeper was signed by Kenny Dalglish back in the January transfer window of 2012 from Wrexham for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth around £100,000. In his six-year spell at the club, he has hardly made a mark making only a handful of first-team appearances.
The custodian is now 24 years old and in the prime stage of his footballing career. It is mandatory for him to play regular minutes if he wishes to develop and Liverpool will certainly not be able to offer him that.
The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had encouraging words for the goalkeeper back in January but nothing has come to fruition so far. “The plan for Wardy is a plan I speak to him about before I speak to the press about it”, Klopp said.
“All good so far; Danny is a young, very skilled, goalkeeper with a lot of potential, which means space for improvement. We are quite desperate to work on that together with him. We would like to do that but we have to see.”
“With all the requests so far from other clubs for loans and stuff like that, in the transfer in January everyone is doing it like the season is already finished, so now we [they try to] get the players because [we] didn’t need use in the first part of the season often enough or stuff like that.
“But it’s a long season and a lot of games to come in a shorter period of time, so there is enough to do for all of the boys. No rush in that and we cannot help other clubs before we think about ourselves.”
However, as it turned out, the player got very little game time and he is now being courted by Sky Bet Championship duo Swansea City and Norwich City. Norwich had a disappointing campaign finishing 14th in the league last season and will look to get in reinforcements in the summer to improve their squad.

The Canaries conceded a mammoth 60 goals and their first choice keeper Angus Gunn, who started all 46 Championship matches, has now gone back to Manchester City after his loan spell at Norwich ran out last month. They are in desperate need of a new keeper but whether Ward fits the bill remains to be seen.
