Latest reports from the English media are claiming that Liverpool are one of the multiple clubs interested in Sweden’s national team star Emil Peter Forsberg. The RB Leipzig winger has expressed his desire to move on to a different challenge after spending four years at Germany with the Bundesliga outfit.
The player has a phenomenal record and was the highest assist maker in the top five leagues across Europe in the breakthrough season of RB Leipzig back in 2016/17. He has been highly instrumental for them and also super effective in front of goal, scoring and assisting regularly for the Bundesliga hotshots.
Speaking to Swedish newspaper Fotbollskanalen, the Swedish midfielder said, “I’m ready for the next big step. That’s going to be very interesting. I am in dialogue with RB and always had a good relationship with the club. I have the dream of playing for the strongest clubs in the world.”
He is the biggest star in the current Sweden team at the 2018 edition of the FIFA World Cup, currently hosted by Russia and with no Zlatan Ibrahimovic around, the 26-year-old winger is being expected to carry the country’s hopes on his shoulders.
He comes from a rich footballing background and is the third generation of descendants in his family to play professionally. His grandfather Lennart and father Leif both played for the national team with Emil now the star of the current set up.
Reports are suggesting that with Forsberg seeking a new challenge, Liverpool and Arsenal are two parties interested in securing his services. The Swedish winger is hot on the radar of the English giants and a summer move to Anfield may well be on the cards. At Arsenal, the Gunners have entered the new regime of former Paris Saint Germain boss Unai Emery to prompt a rivalling offer.
The Spanish tactician has already made two impressive signings in Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer and German goalkeeper Bernd Leno on Tuesday for £19.3million. However, the Gunners will face stiff competition from Liverpool who desperately need more options as a backup upfront.
The Reds have a formidable front three in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but have little options outside these three. The iconic trio struck over 90 goals amongst themselves last season but their backups in Adam Lallana and Dominic Solanke were well below par.

If Liverpool are serious about challenging for trophies in the domestic and European circuit once again in the upcoming season, they will need to buff up their squad and bringing in a young and dynamic winger like Forsberg could definitely solidify their bench.
