The two errors Loris Karius made in Kyiv wasted all the progress he made, six months prior to that final. The German shot-stopper looked like he would solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping problems, albeit in the long run, but his mistakes will now push the club into the transfer market, in search of yet another shot-stopper for their first team.
Simon Mignolet has lost his place in the side and is expected to be sold this summer while Danny Ward does not seem to have impressed Klopp enough to jump into the first team. This has seen Liverpool linked with big money moves for Alisson Becker and Jan Oblak this summer.
They are also looking at Jack Butland and Nick Pope from within the country but are yet to make an official approach for any of those stars. However, the latest name now added to the list in Thomas Strakosha.
Born and brought up in Athens, Greece, the 22-year old joined Lazio’s academy in 2012 but only broke into the first team in 2016. Ever since he made his debut, he established himself as the first choice for the club, making 58 domestic league appearances already.
He was one of the first names on the team sheet last season, starting 53 games in all competitions and playing every minute of the Serie A campaign for his side. He plays his international football for Albania, where he is the first choice. He has four appearances for his country and at just 22, is a potential star for the future.
He is an excellent reader of the game, is quick off his line and is comfortable in claiming crosses thrown into the box. Standing at 6”4’, he is an intimidating figure, who is not afraid to throw himself around. He also has great reflexes while his distribution is one of the biggest assets of his game.
He is yet to show any natural weakness and though might struggle initially with the physical nature of the Premier League, is certainly an upgrade on the names currently at Anfield.
He is an assured and confident player, happy to shoulder responsibility and at such a tender age, he has also shown the ability to marshal his backline. At his age, he is potentially one of the best in Europe at the moment but his inexperience might be a deal breaker for Liverpool.

He is rated at €30m and though the likes of Alisson and Oblak are upgrades on him, they are far too expensive for Liverpool’s liking. However, the Reds will want more established stars, to solve a problem that has been prevalent in the squad for almost a decade now so Strakosha, at the moment, only seems the final option for Liverpool. But reports suggest that they are close to landing him this summer, so do you think he is the right man for Klopp’s men?
