Marseille have cooled their desire to sign Celtic forward Moussa Dembele this summer. According to recent reports, the Ligue 1 giants have decided to step out of the race to seal a move for the French striker during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the French outfit would instead opt for Mario Balotelli with Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder and FC Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar also being touted as possible alternatives for them.
Some sources have recently claimed that Marseille has ended their interest on the Hoops forward which will be a big boost for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. Dembele has risen to prominence since his arrival at Celtic Park from Fulham in the summer of 2016. The French U-21 international has been in scintillating form for the Bhoys over the past few seasons. Hence, the reigning Scottish champions should do everything in their power to hang on to his services as he is one of the most integral members of their squad.
Dembele had featured in 39 matches for the Hoops last season, scoring 16 goals while creating 9 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of talent that the Hoops cannot afford to lose if they want to challenge in European competitions next season.
The Bhoys had another fruitful campaign last term as they were able to clinch a domestic treble but their performance in the UEFA Champions League was underwhelming, to say the least. Hence, Rodgers can’t afford to let go of their most promising players as it will significantly deplete his squad going into the new campaign.
However, the Glaswegian outfit could benefit from the money generated through his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their team. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers needs to develop a transfer plan and work accordingly. If the Parkhead-based club does end up parting ways with the French forward, then they would also need to bring in an ideal replacement who will be capable enough to bolster their attack significantly.

Dembele should definitely look to stay at Celtic Park and opt against a switch to some other club in this post-season as he is already getting regular game time under Rodgers which might help him realise his true potential. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the Scottish international and whether he ends up exiting Parkhead this summer.
