Mario Gotze, the 26-year-old German footballer is looking to revive his career and he has been linked with a move to Leicester City. The World cup winner wants a move to England to take his career forward as he had a below-par season with Borussia Dortmund. Ever since his winning goal in the World Cup final, things haven’t gone according to plan for him and he has struggled with form and injuries in the last few years.
He is being valued at £18m and the figure shouldn’t be much of an issue for most Premier League clubs. However, his performance and fitness need to be assessed before any club makes a move for him. A lot of Premier League clubs are after his signature and the Foxes are also in the race to sign him.
He was diaognosed with a metabolic disease in February 2017 which causes fatigue and weight gain. However, he continued to work hard and did manage to play quite a good amount of games for Dortmund last season. He made 32 appearances for them in all competitions and managed two goals and seven assists. Everyone knows he is a better player than those stats suggests and maybe a move to England might once again bring out the best in him.
The Foxes will be in need of attacking talent as they are set to lose out on their talismanic winger Riyad Mahrez who is close to signing with Manchester City. They have been heavily dependent on the Algerian for the past few years and his departure will certainly be a big loss for the club.
Gotze will not be an out an out replacement for him as the German is traditionally an attacking midfielder and can play down the left as well. He has even turned up as a false 9 for his national side and it remains to be seen what role Claude Puel will assign him if he manages to sign the World cup winner.

Gotze has been left out of Germany’s squad for World Cup and that would certainly aghast him as he was considered as a rising star for Die Mannschaft. The Foxes can make him play behind Jamie Vardy in a no.10 role but he will certainly need some time before he adjusts his game to Engish football. However, he has a world of experience playing in big competitions and he shouldn’t be overawed by the prospect of playing in a new country.
