According to latest reports, Leeds United are in the running to sign Brentford’s defender John Egan. The 25-year-old has been a rock at the back for his side as he made 34 appearances in all competitions. Leeds United are in need of reinforcements to their squad especially at the back and Egan seems to be on the radar. However, there has been no official approach made by the club for the player.
The Whites who are currently managerless after the sacking of Paul Heckingbottom, are close to securing the services of Argentine tactician Marcelo Bielsa. It remains to be seen what sort of additions he will make to the squad but signing a centre-half is an absolute necessity for the Whites currently.
The Irish defender will certainly be a good addition to the Peacocks’ squad as he has a good amount of experience and has even gone on to represent his national side Ireland twice. The Whites have been poor at the back as they let in 64 goals last season. They have been dramatically poor since the Christmas period last year as their performances started to drop and that led to the sacking of Thomas Christiansen. However, their new appointment in February didn’t do any better as Paul Heckingbottom finished with a dismal record of 4 wins in 16 games and as a result, he was also sacked not so long ago.
The Peacocks will be looking for a defensive partner to Pontus Jansson who is expected to keep his place in the playing 11 for the upcoming season. Egan can certainly add more strength at the back and the Whites can be the ones to look out for during set-piece situations as Egan and Jansson are quite good in the air. They have also struggled to score goals freely and a set piece threat will certainly be a welcome addition to the squad. Egan has netted in 10 goals in the last two campaign and most of it were from set pieces.
Brentford finished nine points above Leeds United and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to lure their captain to Elland Road.

The Whites would have wanted Kyle Bartley as their first choice centre-back option but the talks regarding the Swansea defender coming to Elland Road has stopped and it is probably time for the Peacocks to look for replacements. Egan will certainly be a good addition to the squad but will he be a better choice than Bartley? Only time will tell.
