Leeds United can part ways with their striker Marcus Antonsson who has been surplus to their requirements in the last season. He was on loan with Blackburn Rovers where he helped his side to achieve a direct promotion to the Championship. He made 31 appearances in League One and managed 7 goals and provided three assists. However, those numbers don’t seem enough to warrant a future at Elland Road for the 27-year-old forward.
The Swede was signed in 2016 from Kalmar and he hasn’t been able to impress much at his time in England. He has made just 21 appearances for The Whites and has managed just three goals. He played bits and pieces role under Garry Monk but after that, he has been pretty much sidelined and last year he was sent on a season-long loan at Ewood Park.
The striker is set to enter in his last year of the contract and the Whites are looking to get him off their wage bill. There has been an interest in the striker from Italy as Serie B side Brescia are looking to sign him. Brescia are owned by former Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino. It seems like the owner has a particular liking with the Swedish player and he is looking to bring him to Italy where his side finished 16th in the table.
The Whites have confirmed the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa and the United faithful will be looking for a new beginning under the Argentine tactician. The Whites have been left disappointed season after season as their last appearance in the Premier League was more than a decade back.
Last season also, they ended on a dismal 13th spot after a good beginning where they reignited hopes of a playoff finish. However, as the season progressed their wheels came off and they slumped to a mid-table finish in the end.

Antonsson hasn’t set things on fire since he joined the Whites and it is likely that he will be let go in the summer. The Whites are in need of strikers who can score 15-20 odd goals a season and they have been linked with the likes of Abel Hernandez, Marvin Duksch and Matej Vydra. It is clear that the Swede doesn’t have a future at Elland Road and a move to Italy looks highly likely at this point in time. The Peacocks shouldn’t have much hesitation in letting the striker go as that will lessen their wage bill.
