Leeds United are set to get active in the transfer market now that they secured their new manager Marcelo Bielsa and currently they are being linked with Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker. The midfielder had spent the second half of last season on loan with Middlesbrough and it seems like the Whites have been impressed with what the 23-year-old has to offer.
Baker has been with the London outfit since he was 9 years old and has slowly graduated from their youth ranks. However, he is finding it tough to take the final and the hardest step i.e to break into Chelsea’s senior team. The former England u-21 international has one senior appearance to his name as of now.
The youngster has been touted heavily by quite a few coaches and is considered as a future England International. In 2014, the then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho went on record and said that“If in a few years, Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players, I should blame myself.”
Out of the three, only Dominic Solanke has gone on to represent England at the senior level and he is currently plying his trade for Liverpool.
The 23-year old youngster has been a regular for their reserve side and has made it to the senior team bench on quite a few occasions. However, he’s still nowhere near getting the first-team action at the Stamford Bridge. Last season he made 12 appearances in the Championship with Middlesbrough and did go on to have some good game for the Teessiders.
It is believed that the Peacocks are looking for a permanent move for this highly rated midfielder but if Chelsea are not willing to sell him then they might get him on a season-long loan deal. The midfielder has had loan spells with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Vitesse Arnhem and he has done decently wherever he has gone.

The Whites need some players in midfield who can have the spine and fight it out for their team when the going gets tough. The midfield has lacked intensity and was lethargic last season as they failed to provide for goals or shield their defence. Getting some young talents like Baker could be the right way to go for Bielsa as he looks to build this team worthy of challenging for a playoff spot next season.
