Leeds United are plotting a move for Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are planning to make a loan move for the English centre-forward during the summer transfer window as Pep Guardiola wants to help Marcelo Bielsa with the transfer. It is believed that the Leeds boss wants to strengthen his options at Elland Road ahead of the new season and Nmecha fits the bill perfectly.
Some sources are now claiming that the West Yorkshire side are looking to seal a loan move for the City starlet to help them in their quest to earn a promotion back to the English top-flight. It has also been suggested that the Citizens of Manchester are ready to let some of their youngsters leave on loan so that they can gain some valuable first-team experience somewhere else.
Moreover, the close proximity between the two clubs indicates that the Manchester City scouts could monitor the progress of their young talents quite easily. The same report also stated that Marcelo Bielsa’s high-pressing style of football is one of the key reasons why City boss Pep Guardiola will allow some of his young stars to join Leeds.
In a recent interview, Guardiola spoke of his admiration for the new Leeds manager and was quoted to have said, “My admiration for Marcelo Bielsa is huge because he makes the players much, much better.
“Still, I didn’t meet one guy, a former player from Marcelo Bielsa who speaks no good about him. They are grateful about his influence on their careers in football.
“He helped me a lot with his advice. Whenever I speak with him I always feel like he wants to help me.
“It is important for me to say this about Marcelo because it doesn’t matter how many titles he had in his career. We are judged by that – how much success we have, how many titles we have won.
“But that is much less influential than how he has influenced football and his football players. That is why, for me, he is the best coach in the world.”
The Peacocks had an underwhelming campaign and could only manage to grind out a 13th place in the English Championship last season. Marcelo Bielsa needs to revamp his squad by making some quality additions in the summer so that he has a well-equipped squad capable of challenging for a promotion spot in the upcoming campaign.
The addition of Nmecha will undoubtedly bolster Bielsa’s attacking options at Elland Road. Leeds United have the likes of Tyler Roberts, Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot vying to lead the lines in Bielsa’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Nmecha will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Leeds squad.

At the mere age of 19, the English forward still has a lot of time to grow and develop his game so that he can break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team in the next few years. For now, the City academy product needs to put his head down and gain as much experience as possible. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Nmecha and whether he ends up plying his trade at West Yorkshire next term.
