Leeds United have been handed over a huge boost in their pursuit of Hibernian midfielder, John McGinn from the words of Easter Road Chief Executive, Leeann Dempster. She was quoted, “We don’t live and die by transfer fees. If we were to receive a transfer fee for a player of some significance, of course, that would be welcome.”
Earlier reports claimed that McGinn had found an escape from all the transfer speculations surrounding him through international fixtures in South America. The 23-year-old was away for Scotland in the friendlies against Peru, which the hosts won 2-0.
McGinn was quoted, “I am glad to be on the other side of the world at the moment if I am honest. I am aware of what’s going on and what’s being said.”
“The speculation is only there because I have been playing well. As a team, we have been different class but you must be doing something right when you see your name linked with all these clubs.”
The Glasgow-born midfielder made history with two of his club teammates, Lewis Stevenson and Dylan McGeouch by featuring for the Scotland senior XI last month. The last time three players from Hibernian were in the starting lineup for the Tartan Army was back in 1956 in the 1-1 draw against England.
He is coming off his third season with the Cabbage, having played in 46 games last campaign and scoring 6 in the process. He also contributed 8 assists to help his side to the 4th spot of the Scottish Premiership.
John McGinn has been prolific in the Scottish top-flight and impressive for his country as well which has led to so many clubs fighting it out for his signature. The Whites are yet to appoint a head coach for their upcoming season but Andrea Radrizzani wants to bolster the current squad nevertheless.
Leeds will have to bring in the necessary reinforcements to start repairing their previous woes. Finishing in the 13th spot is not exactly what Radrizzani had planned when he took over and neither did the fans at Elland Road.
McGinn is still only 23 and has the years in front of him to develop into the star he has promised to be. £5m for the Scotsman seems like a bargain in the current market even though he is not proven in the English stage.

With Pablo Hernandez hitting 34 this year, McGinn could come in as a long time replacement.
