Derby County‘s owner has indicated that they need to cut down on their cost and bring their wage bill down and that has meant that they might have to sell some of their prized assets in the summer. One of them is Matej Vydra who was the top goal scorer in the Championship last season.
Vydra is being targeted by Leeds United according to some reports but now it seems that a new entrant has joined the race to sign the striker and it’s the recently relegated West Bromwich Albion who, under the guidance of their new manager Darren Moore, will be looking to bounce back in the Premier League. Even Stoke City have been linked with the Czech Republican forward and they also look strong contenders to have him as they are currently being managed by former Rams manager Gary Rowett.
The Whites have had yet another dismal season as their fruitful start came to nothing. They were unbeaten in their first seven games and that would have given the fans a new sense of hope regarding their playoff chances. However, their season got derailed as it progressed and they ended up sacking two managers in the space of 5 months. A lot of rebuilding needs to be done and on top of that, they need to find a new manager who can take this wrecked ship and make them reach the shore safely.
A signing like Vydra will certainly come in handy at Elland Road as they have lacked able offensive options upfront. They managed just 59 goals last season and they will be in need of strikers who can score 15-20 odd goals in a season.
Leeds are also in the running to sign Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez who was recently released by Hull City and is currently a free agent. However, it is highly unlikely that they will go for both Vydra and Hernandez.
With the Baggies coming into the picture, things could get complicated for the Peacocks as reportedly they can lure the 26-year-old by offering him higher wages. The odds will be stacked against the Whites if West Brom makes a concrete offer for the striker. Vydra even had a loan spell at the Hawthorns in the 2013-14 campaign. However, he failed to deliver the goods then as he managed just 3 goals in 25 appearances.

If the Whites are serious about having their man then they need to be quick in their dealings as a further delay might give other clubs a chance to lure away their target.
