Leeds United will be in need of a striker as they have lacked a cutting edge in front of goal in the previous term. They managed just 59 goals in their entire campaign and that is certainly not good enough for a team who is looking to challenge for a playoff spot. Kemar Roofe was their highest scorer for the 2017-18 campaign in the Championship as he managed 11 goals. Pierre-Michel Lasogga came a close second as he scored 10 goals. However, he has returned to his parent club Hamburg as his loan spell came to an end and Leeds United will be looking to replace him with another striker.
The Whites have been linked with quite a few strikers since the transfer window began and one of them is Jerry Mbakogu. He currently plays in the Italian second division for Carpi where he managed eight goals and three assists in 28 appearances. The Whites were interested in him even in the January transfer window but nothing materialised. It’s being said that the Italian outfit was demanding £3.5m for the striker which the Peacocks were hesitant to pay.
Leeds have also shown a keen interest in Abel Hernandez who is going to be out of contract by the end of the month and the Whites can snap him up for free if they manage to agree with his personal demands. The Uruguayan has spent four years at the KCOM stadium and has been prolific for them. However, his time with the Tigers has been plagued with injuries. They finished a dismal 18th this term and look a far way off from challenging for a playoff spot.
Although the 27-year-old made just 10 appearances in the just concluded season, he managed to find the back of the net eight times and he even provided 2 assists. That is certainly a haul of a prolific striker and if he would have been available for the most part of the season, Hull City would have had a much better finish in the Championship table.
Mbakogu has been described as the ‘new Drogba’ by his agent due to his physical presence and work rate but he still has to prove himself in the Italian division. On the other hand, Hernandez has a good amount of experience of playing in English football and he has even played in the English top flight.

Mbakogu might be younger than Hernandez but the Uruguayan triumphs over him as a striker as he has proven himself in England. On top of that, he will be available for free, so it should be a no-brainer for the Whites board on who should be their preferred signing over the two strikers.
