Last season’s League One sensation, Jack Marriott, has been on the radar of many a Championship clubs and even the Scottish giants Celtic are interested in having the defender at their disposal. However, the Scottish treble winners might be handed a setback after Peterborough United’s Director Of Football confirmed that the player is keen on a move to Nottingham Forest.
Director of football Barry Fry recently said,” Jack [Marriott] does want to join Nottingham Forest. But Derby’s(County) interest is recent and I would say they have a better chance of making us the right sort of offer. I spoke to Frank Lampard and his father at the play-off finals which was before he had got the Derby job, although it was common knowledge he would be appointed.”
He further added,” We talked about a lot of players, but Harry Redknapp had told him to keep an eye on our club because of our habit of finding goalscorers. Forest say they are keen on Jack, but they have made no offer yet despite their manager being very friendly with our manager. They talk all the time and Jack is a regular subject.”
It seems clear that various Championship sides have an edge over signing the League one goal machine and Brendan Rodgers will find it difficult to lure him. However, the Hoops haven’t made an official approach for the player and they have only scouted him. So they can still very much enter the race to sign the striker.
The Striker managed 33 goals and five assists in all competitions last season for his club and he is destined to play football at a higher level in the upcoming season. He is still just 23 and seems to have all the facets to his game which a proper number 9 needs.
Celtic have secured the services of Paris Saint Germain’s striker Odsonne Edouard. The forward played an important role last season as he managed 11 goals and 4 assists in his loan spell at Celtic Park.
With the signing of Edouard being confirmed now, it seems highly unlikely that the Hoops will go in for another striker as they already have the likes of Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele. On top of that, they paid a club record fee of £9m to secure the signing of Edouard and they will certainly now pull out of the race for Marriott given the fact that they have not even made an official inquiry for the player. However, one cannot count them out yet if someone like Dembele leaves the club in the summer.
