Manchester United will not be too pleased with the way their transfer dealings have panned out till date this summer. The Red Devils have missed out on more than one of their top transfer targets and are also in danger of losing a couple of their first team stars.
But they were finally given some good news after it was revealed that Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea, has agreed to sign a new deal with Manchester United.
Though it is not official yet, reports from M.E.N claim that the 27-year old has agreed to put pen to paper and that United are confident that they will announce a new five-year deal with the Spaniard, that will keep him at the club till 2023. How big a boost is this for United?
Having joined the club back in 2011. De Gea took no time to turn into the first choice for the Red Devils but the first couple of seasons were not his best. He was error-prone and constantly frustrated the fan base but seemed to pull out some impressive saves, that saw United stick with him for another season.
But he slowly grew in confidence and established himself in England turning into one of the best keepers in the world at the moment. He is probably the most consistent GKs currently at the World Cup and though the howler against Portugal recently will haunt him for a while, he is more than capable of producing match-winning performances for the rest of the tournament.
He has a PL title and a Europa League title in his time at Old Trafford and was named in the PFA Team of the Year in each of the last four seasons. He was also named the Player of the Year for the Red Devils in the 2014-15 season and repeated that feat last season as well, where he also won the Golden Boot in the English league.

He has time and again pulled out saves that look impossible and stands as a genuine match winner for United. He has probably been their best player since the post-Alex Ferguson era and is definitely a player they cannot afford to lose.
Born and brought up in Madrid, he will certainly be tempted by the interests from Real Madrid but issues with the Spanish press and his history in the Premier League will see him happy at Old Trafford, which will be the biggest news for United this summer.
Even if they sign a superstar, retaining De Gea beyond this summer might be the best deal Mourinho can pull off.
