Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard’s first assignment as a manager does not seem to have fazed him. He has been a busy man in the transfer window, adding players who he thinks will take the club forward, and has already added six new faces to the squad from the previous season.
He is still not done and is now looking at players with experience, who can help them find stability and consistency next season. One such player now linked with a move to the club is Kyle Lafferty.
A product of the academy at Burnley, Lafferty joined Rangers back in 2008, and spent four long years at the club, establishing himself as a star in his country. He scored 31 league goals in 108 league games over four seasons and have the fans a lot to remember.
However, after a bust-up with David Weir at the club, Lafferty lodged an objection against his contract being transferred from Rangers. He joined FC Sion with a meagre compensation fee but moved back to England with Norwich City in 2014. He joined the Scottish top flight again with Hearts at the start of the previous season and was in decent form for them.
He scored 15 goals in 37 games in all competitions last season and even at 30, showed no signs of slowing down. Since he left Rangers, he has been vocal about being misguided into leaving the club and wanting to play at the Ibrox again. He showed his quality first-hand last season when he scored a sumptuous free kick against The Gers at Tyneside Park.
The way he left the club last time around still seems to be fresh in the minds of the supporters but reports suggest that Gerrard believes that Lafferty’s previous experience of working with the club will help him next season. It is understood that Rangers are ready to make a bid of £450,000 for his services this summer. So, is he a decent buy for the club?
Gerrard has added a mix of youngsters and tested players for his side so far. But he is yet to add to his attack, making Lafferty his first choice. Alfredo Morelos will retain his place in the first team with the 30 year old forward being a good backup for him or leading the line alongside him.

The manager might be tempted to spend on an exciting name as a backup for Morelos but at such a meagre price, bringing Lafferty back to Ibrox will only make them stronger.
