Manchester United are one club that have a lot of business to do this summer. While they are set to lose a few of their first team stars, they are also looking to improve on the options in the squad at Old Trafford at the moment.
Jose Mourinho will be desperate to resolve futures of players who are at the club at the moment and one such player, who has now extended his Old Trafford stay is Dean Henderson.
At just 21, Henderson has already become a popular name in England, thanks to his superb season for Shrewsbury Town. It also helped him break into the England U21 side earlier this year, establishing himself as an exciting prospect in the country.
He joined the Manchester United academy in 2011 but spent the last two seasons on loan at different clubs. His stint with Grimsby Town showed his potential while his 38 appearances for The Strews has helped him announce himself to the country.
At just 21, Henderson has great potential to be a star for United. He is a great shot-stopper with decent reflexes while his ability to pick passes from the back makes him more effective. He is hardly fazed by the big occasion and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One last season, showing his progress in recent years.
And it is now understood that Manchester United have managed to tie him down to a new long-term deal. Henderson put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at United until 2020.
“I’m really delighted. Coming off the back of last season and playing games at Shrewsbury and having a good season there, to return to the biggest club in the world and put pen to paper again is a great achievement for me and my family. It’s another dream come true,” Henderson said, talking about his contract extension.
He will still be behind Sergio Romero and Joe Pereira at Old Trafford as backups to David de Gea but at 21, he will want to play as many games as possible and a loan move back to the lower tiers in England is definitely on the cards this summer.
He kept 14 clean sheets and saw just 34 goals scored past him in 38 League One appearances and his consistency under the bar will surely attract the biggest clubs in the Championship. Do you think he is the future for Manchester United?
