Manchester United are one of the very few clubs in Europe who are not afraid to axe players who do not fit their system immediately. A number of star players have failed to impress at Old Trafford and moved on to establish themselves elsewhere. And with Jose Mourinho at their helm, the Red Devils might not lose that tag in a hurry.
The Portuguese gaffer is controversially known for his treatment of players who do not seem fit for his side and one such player, who has struggled in his first season at Manchester is Victor Lindelof.
The Swedish international made a name for himself with Portuguese giants SL Benfica, where he earned a name as one of the brightest defenders in Europe. His reputation saw him earn a move to Old Trafford last summer but he has failed to show any kind of promise, only acting as a backup to the first team stars for most of the season.
He made just 13 Premier League starts and did not do anything to convince the fans or the manager. He was also used in six cup competitions and looks set for another season of the same if he stays at Old Trafford. His best outings for the club probably came in back to back games against Sevilla and Chelsea, where he put in a couple of solid performances but still, does not remain a preferred option for Mourinho.
The Portuguese gaffer is so unconvinced by the 23-year old that he is once again in the transfer market for another CB this summer. While Samuel Umtiti is no longer an option, United are looking at Clement Lenglet as a possible addition to their squad. Does that mean the end of Lindelof?
Though he has not been able to make an impact on the English top flight, reports suggest that clubs like Everton are already circling around United for his signature. So should United let him leave?
The former Benfica star has loads of potential and is actually a decent fit for Mourinho’s system. He has not been given enough chances to prove himself yet but United already have a weak defence and Lindelof is probably fourth in the pecking order at the club after the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Mourinho is sure to spend on another defender this summer, leaving Lindelof hanging. So a move away from Old Trafford might not be a bad deal for all parties. But the manager might not want to lose out on him permanently and should try and include a buy-back clause if they decide to sell him.
He cost United £31.5m and if Everton are ready to meet the price tag United have slapped on him, which stands at £35m, the Red Devils should look at possible options to replace him, as they can surely find an upgrade. But do you think he should be given more chances at Old Trafford next season?
