There has been growing interest among Premier League clubs for Xherdan Shaqiri and with every passing day, it seems like a new club joins the fray to sign this talented Swiss winger. Everton‘s name has been doing the rounds for quite some time now but it is still not clear whether they are going to get him. According to latest reports, Liverpool have also joined the race to sign him as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
Shaqiri has quite easily been the standout player for the Potters in the last few seasons and after their relegation, it was certain that the 26-year-old will not stay long at the Bet 365 stadium. He had earlier mentioned that he will leave Stoke city after they suffered the heartbreak of relegation. He said,” It is no secret that I will leave the club. I think the [Premier] league is perfect for me. I would love to stay in England but I don’t want to rule anything out. It’s the best league with the best players.”
Those comments will certainly dampen the mood of other clubs outside of England as he clearly indicates that he will like to stay in the English topflight division.
Everton will be looking to challenge the big boys of the Premier League in the upcoming season and they will need proven attacking talents at their disposal. Someone like Shaqiri will certainly fit the bill and under their new manager Marco Silva he can definitely be one of the players to watch out for.
His release clause is set to be around £12m as the Potters were relegated, and that price shouldn’t be much of an issue for a 26-year-old Premier League proven winger for the Toffees.
However, to have him they might have to make their move as the race to sign the winger is certainly heating up. With Liverpool entering the fray, they might have an edge over other clubs as they can offer him Champions League football. However, he might have to struggle for game time at Anfield as they are blessed with some serious attacking talents currently.
At the blue side of Merseyside, there won’t be such issues and it will be expected that Shaqiri will be a regular at Goodison Park. Shaqiri will be an upgrade over the likes of Theo Walcott, Yannick Bolasie and Nikola Vlasic and Marco Silva will certainly be delighted if they manage to sign him.
