Everton are lining up a move for Benfica striker André Carrillo this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are interested in securing the signature of the Peruvian striker during this summer transfer window. A report in O Jogo claims that Everton manager Marco Silva could raid his former club in pursuit of the Peruvian international’s signature, as he looks to build a squad capable enough of challenging for top honours next season.
The 27-year-old forward caught the eye with some dazzling performances on loan at Watford last season. Some sources are now claiming that a number of English sides are tracking the progress of Carrillo after he impressed in Peru’s game against Denmark on Saturday.
Carrillo has featured for the whole 90 minutes in both of Peru’s matches so far at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He made 30 appearances for the Hornets last term, scoring two goals while grabbing two assists in all competitions.
Although Carrillo has the ability to have an impact in any game, his goal-scoring record in English football is quite poor, which makes it a huge gamble for the Merseyside club.
Everton had to endure a difficult campaign in the league last term and could only manage to grind out an 8th placed finish in the English top-flight. The Blues of Merseyside will now look to bring in some quality players this summer so that they can improve on their league performances in the upcoming campaign and close the gap on their bitter rivals Liverpool, at the top half of the league standings.
The addition of Carrillo will undoubtedly bolster Silva’s attacking options ahead of the new season. Everton have some talented forwards in their squad which include Wayne Rooney, Cenk Tosun, Oumar Niasse, Theo Walcott and Yannick Bolasie vying for a starting berth at Goodison Park. The potential acquisition of Carrillo will definitely improve the Toffees and will add more competition for places within the squad.

At 27, Carrillo still has his peak years ahead of him, which the Merseyside club should look to capitalise on, in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Peruvian ace and whether he ends up making a switch to Goodison Park before the start of the new season.
