Everton are prepared to use Muhamed Bešić as a makeweight to sign Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are planning to use two of their players, Muhamed Besic and Ramiro Funes Mori in an effort to convince the Boro to part ways with their prized asset during this summer transfer window. It is understood that Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is not willing to part ways with his nephew on the cheap.
Some sources are now claiming that the Blues of Merseyside are ready to use Besic and Funes Mori in some “hard-bargaining and negotiating” so that they can land Gibson in this off-season. Besic had a productive loan spell at the Riverside Stadium last season and it has been suggested that the Boro manager Tony Pulis would like to have him back in a heartbeat.
Recent reports have also revealed that Besic would be willing to seal a switch to Teeside if he is deemed surplus to requirements by Marco Silva. Gibson has a price-tag of around £20m dangling on his shoulders so only time will tell whether the Toffees are able to convince the Teessiders with a player plus cash swap deal.
Gibson had made 51 appearances for Boro last season and has one goal and three assists to his name in all competitions.
Everton had to endure a gruelling domestic campaign last term and could only manage to conjure up an 8th placed finish in the English top tier. Marco Silva would now look to bring in some quality players this summer to try and improve his team and close the gap to their Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the upcoming campaign.
The potential signing of Gibson will undoubtedly bolster Everton’s defensive options ahead of the new season. The Toffees have some talented defenders in their squad which include Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane competing for a place in Silva’s backline at Goodison Park. The addition of Gibson will definitely improve the Merseyside team and add more competition for places within their squad.

At 25, the English centre-back still has his best years ahead of him which the Blues should look to benefit from, in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Gibson and whether he ends up sealing a move to Merseyside before the start of the new season.
