Everton recently appointed Marco Silva as their new boss. The Toffees disappointed heavily despite spending a fortune in the two windows of the transfer market last season and the Merseyside fans were more than disappointed with Sam Allardyce’s style of football.
Everton’s top half finish was poor and now with Silva in charge, Everton boss Farhad Moshiri will not only be expecting a better finish but a more entertaining brand of football as well.
This is what Silva said after he was announced as the boss: “We want to build a great connection between the squad and the fans, and I’m sure that with our attitude and demands of commitment then our style of play will see that, I believe. Everton is a really ambitious club and that is what I want. What we are seeing now are good changes at the club. The club is changing its approach.”
It seems now he is ready to move in for his first signing with Jamaal Lascelles of Newcastle United becoming his first target. The player is the Toon captain and had an excellent season last time out.
Toon boss Rafa Benitez was confident that club captain Lascelles would stay at St James’ Park when speaking to the press at the end of the season. The Spanish tactician had said: “I think he will stay here, and hopefully for the long term. He has huge potential and big clubs will look at him because he is a young, English centre-back.
“It is not easy to find good centre-backs who can play well in the Premier League, especially not English ones, and it’s even harder to find young ones. He has all the attributes to be a target for all top teams because you can see from his performances over the last two years he keeps getting better and better.”
“But I think that for his future, and for his development, that he stays in a place where he can play and he can improve and continue to keep getting better with us. I think he understands that too. He seems happy and he is learning all the time, so I hope he stays for a long time.”
Lascelles was developed and brought into the mainframe by Benitez himself who lifted a below average team, gained them promotion and guided them to a 10th place finish last season in the English Premier League. Lascelles is strong, powerful in the air and has a cool composure to his game.

He will be an ideal fit for the Everton side under Silva. The Toffees have Michael Keane, who they brought last season and Lascelles will be a perfect partner for him. With Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams both getting old, Everton will need a new senior centre back and Lascelles could just be their man. He will reportedly cost £30m if the Toffees want to bring him in.
