Ligue 1 outfit EA Guingamp midfielder Clement Grenier impressed everyone after moving from Lyon in the January transfer window and as a result, he is now being linked with a move to Everton. Apart from the Merseyside club, there are others as well who are interested in this 27-year-old.
The name Grenier might not ring bells among English fans but he was once touted to be a future French star. However, his career didn’t take off as everyone expected and slowly he became a surplus to requirements with French heavyweights Lyon. The Frenchman has been at the club since 2009 and has graduated from their reserve squad to senior team. He made 154 appearances for the French Outfit in almost a decade-long stint at the club.
Guingamp gave him a way out as he struggled to get game time at Lyon and he settled well at his new club. He made 15 appearances for them in the second half of the season and managed 5 goals and 4 assists. Such performance has caught the eye of Premier League clubs and the Toffees are already in touch with the player.
The midfielder has even represented France at the national level, but over the years he has fallen down the pecking order and is currently out of contention for a place in the national squad. He has managed 5 caps for them and was named in the Les Bleus squad for the 2014 World cup. However, he had to pull out his name six days prior to the World Cup as he suffered an injury.
The Toffees will be looking for a new beginning under Marco Silva and the pressure will be on the Portuguese manager to deliver from the word go. We all witnessed what happened with Ronald Koeman who was brought in at the club to play an attractive brand of football. He left the club in October last year as they were hovering around the relegation zone and was succeeded by Sam Allardyce.

Grenier has a good technical ability on the ball and will certainly be a good addition to Marco Silva’s squad as he looks to get this team play in an attractive way. However, the real test will be whether Grenier will be able to adjust his game to the dynamics of English football as we have seen many a promising player from other leagues fail to establish themselves in the Premier League. The Blues will, of course, be hoping otherwise and expect that he comes good at the Goodison Park if the club makes a move for him in the transfer market.
