Everton are lining up an offer to sign Celtic defender Kieran Tierney this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are interested in securing the services of the Scottish youngster during this summer transfer period. The Merseyside club are looking to strengthen their options under new manager Marco Silva ahead of the new season and Tierney fits the bill perfectly.
It is understood that Silva is on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines and has identified the Scottish fullback as an ideal replacement. The 21-year-old penned a new six-year deal at Celtic Park last year but some sources are now claiming that Everton are prepared to test Celtic’s resolve by putting in an official bid for their prized asset.
However, the Blues of Merseyside are not the only ones looking to recruit Tierney with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also in the race to sign the Scottish prospect. He is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the guidance of Marco Silva at Goodison Park. At the mere of 21, Tierney has managed to establish himself as a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team so he shouldn’t have any problems to do the same in this current Everton team if he is given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the English top-flight.
The Merseysiders had to endure an underwhelming domestic campaign last season and could only manage to attain an 8th placed finish in the league table. Marco Silva would now look to make some quality acquisitions during this ongoing transfer window so that he can improve his squad and close the gap to their local rivals Liverpool next term.
The potential signing of Tierney will undoubtedly bolster Everton’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The Toffees have some talented full-backs in their squad which include Leighton Baines, Séamus Coleman, Cuco Martina and Jonjoe Kenny competing for a starting berth in Silva’s first-team. The addition of Tierney will definitely improve the Merseyside team significantly and add more competition for places within their squad.

The Scottish youngster is also quite versatile and primarily plays as a left-back but can also be deployed on a more advanced role down the left flank or as a centre-back which makes him a perfect fit for the Blues of Merseyside. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Tierney and whether he ends up sealing a switch to Goodison Park before the start of the new campaign.
