Everton are in the reckoning to sign the soon to be out of contract Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare. Clare has had loan spells at Bury FC, Accrington Stanley and Gillingham. He managed just 5 appearances in the Championship after he returned in January from Gillingham. He missed quite a few games in the latter half of the season due to injuries. However, he impressed everyone with his performances in a short while and therefore various Championship clubs and now even Everton are also after his signature.
The midfielder has been with the Owls since 2016 but as mentioned above, he spent most of those times on loan at various clubs. He is set to be out of contract by the end of this month and he will be available for free. The South Yorkshire team did offer him a new contract but he refused to sign a new deal with them and it seems very likely that his time at Hillsborough stadium is set to come to an end.
The Toffees are looking for a new beginning under Marco Silva after they parted ways with Sam Allardyce. The former English manager did a decent job at the Merseyside club as he guided them to the 8th spot. However, the fans and board were unimpressed with his style of play and as a result, he was shown the door.
They will be expected to play an attacking and attractive brand of football under their new manager and they will be looking to challenge the big boys of the Premier League. The Merseyside club has shown ambition in the transfer market in the last two windows and it is expected that they will reinforce their squad further.
Clare is a versatile midfielder and can play in various positions including defensive midfield and right back. However, he is dominantly used as a right midfielder and that is where he is at his best. He is known for his burst of pace down the right and is quite a handful in the wide region.

However, the 21-year-old will certainly be in future plans for Marco Silva if he goes on to bring him at Goodison Park, and it doesn’t seem likely that he will get into the first eleven straightaway. He has shown potential in his stint with lower division clubs but playing in the top division can be a different ball game for the Englishman.
