According to latest reports, Turkish giants Fenerbahce might step away from their pursuit of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos. Earlier it was being reported that the Turks are interested in the Colombian who did well in his first season in Scotland. The reports suggested that Fenerbahce would have offered a cash plus player deal to land the Colombian teenager and the player involved was said to be Martin Skrtel who has been linked with Rangers before.
However, such rumours can be put to rest now as the Turkish side are now keen on bringing Liverpool‘s out of favour striker Daniel Sturridge who spent the second half of the last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion.
The Colombian forward joined the Teddy Bears from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki and in his first season in Scotland, he was nominated for PFA young player of the season. Gerrard recently indicated that they have no interest in letting Morelos go after an impressive season. The team is currently in Spain for a pre-season training camp and Gerrard commented about the player in a recent interview.
He said,” We love the player. The fans love the player. He’s a goal scorer. We know what he can add to this team and squad. If you’re asking me if his head has been turned that’s a question you’d have to ask the player himself. But where we stand right now, he’s a Rangers player and I’m delighted to have him.”
Morelos would certainly be in Steven Gerrard’s plan for the upcoming season as the Colombian striker scored 18 goals and provided 8 assists in all competitions and now that Fenerbahce has cooled off their interest in the striker, the Gers will breathe a sigh of relief.
The 22-year-old striker was linked with a move away even in the January transfer window when the Chinese outfit Beijing Renhe came calling for him. However, the Gers managed to hold on to their prized asset even though there was a substantial £8m figure offered for the player.

The current Gers side will be looking to challenge their arch nemesis Celtic in the upcoming season and they would have been dealt a body blow if their Colombian forward decided to part ways with them. The team is a bit short on out and out goalscoring options and they cannot afford to lose Morelos at the moment. The recent loss of interest from the Turks for the striker will certainly be a major boost for the Gers board and Steven Gerrard.
